As an avid Spider-Man and Black Panther comic book collector, there are on line comic book stores that I have purchased from in some cases for decades. Their ongoing success is part of what motivated me to start this store on Shopify.
A gentleman by the name of Lamont Cranston Johnson, wanted to start the business with me several years ago. Mr. Johnson was an IBM technician who was able to get a transfer from Ohio to Honolulu, Hawaii. Obviously he knew his stuff. Lamont was a big X-Men fan but along with that he collected just about everything Marvel and many DC titles. He gave me permission a long time ago to relate the fact that he also suffered with major depressive disorder along with OCD. Those symptoms caused him to go into a deep slump once a year around January. It was his depression that caused him to lose interest in the comic book stories but it was his OCD that caused him to buy titles bagged and boarded and literally, put them in a box without every touching them.
In 2003, after two failed attempts, Lamont committed suicide. He left a video Last Will and Testament. In it, he bequeathed me his entire 45 long boxes comic book collection as well as his automobile. I donated the car to a mental health agency that had worked with him and along with my comics, started this business. In the past, The Black Arachknight was auction oriented. The fees charged became outrageous and I decided to take the Black Arachknight into the competitive market.
Any comic book that I label as VF-NM, is more like NM as it has not been touched by human hands after being placed in a plastic sleeve. I plan to carry comics in all grades to satisfy the pocket books of all my customers.
As an ongoing comic book collector, I went to the two companies that I have purchased comics from for decades to get an idea of the fair market value for these books. The two companies taht I have personally bought comics from are Midtown Comics and Mile High Comics. Any price you see on my comics are based upon their prices in the same condition. If you find the same comic in the same condition NOT on sale at a lower price, simply send me the link to that comic and I will match it and provide a 10% discount.
While like any business person I am committed to making a profit, as an advocate of comic book collecting, I want to make it possible for people to start their own collections and enjoy the experience that I have for well over 5 decades ( yes, I’m that old!)
Social distancing need not be social isolation. Part of the joy of the current Disney+ Marvel shows is that people have read the comic books that these shows are being based upon and are having a blast trying to predict what will happen next. There was a time when comic book readers were nerds off in a small room called a comic book shop. Now that comic books have become a part of popular culture, nerds get to be the ones who are hip (do they still use that expression?).
Have a great reading experience and remember-Comic book collecting-Safer than drugs-cheaper than alimony!
